Alpha Lume · App privacy

Privacy policy

Your camera. Your photos. Your control.

Last updated:

The short version

Alpha Lume connects your iPhone or iPad directly to your Sony camera so you can browse, save, and share photos and videos. The app does not require an account and does not include advertising, tracking, or third-party analytics. Your camera’s media and Wi-Fi credentials are not sent to the developer.

This policy covers the Alpha Lume iOS and iPadOS app, provided by the developer (“we”, “us”). It explains the information the app handles locally and what happens when you choose to share files or contact us.

Information on your device

  • Saved cameras. The app stores the camera name, model, Wi-Fi network name (SSID), a local identifier, a cached camera network address, and creation and last-connection dates on your device. These details let you reconnect to saved cameras.
  • Wi-Fi passwords. Camera passwords are stored in Apple’s Keychain with device-only protection and are accessible when your device is unlocked. The app does not sync these passwords through iCloud Keychain.
  • Camera QR codes. Scanning is processed on your device to fill in your camera’s connection details. The app does not save or upload scanner images, the raw QR code, or the camera’s MAC address.
  • Photos, videos, and metadata. The app reads the media your camera makes available, including thumbnails, filenames, dates, dimensions, and file sizes. Previews are cached in memory; originals are downloaded when you request full resolution, saving, or sharing.

Camera discovery and transfers use the camera’s local Wi-Fi network. Alpha Lume does not upload your library to a developer-operated server or provide its own cloud backup. Local camera transfer protocols may use HTTP without transport encryption.

Permissions you control

  • Local Network and Wi-Fi connection approval: to discover, connect to, and transfer media from your camera.
  • Camera: only to scan your Sony camera’s connection QR code. You can enter connection details manually instead.
  • Add to Photos: to save the media you select to Apple Photos. The app requests add-only access; it does not request access to read your existing Photos library.

You can change Camera, Local Network, and Photos permissions in iOS or iPadOS Settings at any time. Features that need a permission will be unavailable while that permission is denied. Disconnecting in the app removes the camera Wi-Fi association configured by Alpha Lume.

For background saves, iOS may display the current filename and transfer progress in a system Live Activity, including on your Lock Screen. You can stop a transfer through the app or the system activity.

Saving and sharing

Media is shared with another app or service only when you choose a destination in the system share sheet. The recipient handles the file under its own privacy policy.

Alpha Lume preserves the downloaded file’s format and embedded metadata. Depending on your camera, this may include the capture date, camera information, and location coordinates. Review your files and the receiving app’s options before sharing information you want to keep private.

Files saved to Apple Photos are managed by Apple Photos and may sync to iCloud Photos if you have enabled it. Device backups and Apple’s system services follow your Apple settings and Apple’s privacy policy. Alpha Lume does not sell personal information or share it for advertising.

Retention and deletion

  • Camera profiles and passwords: retained so you can reconnect. Delete a camera in the Cameras tab to remove its saved profile and associated Keychain password. Do this before uninstalling if you want to remove saved credentials; uninstalling alone may leave Keychain items.
  • Gallery and preview caches: held in memory and cleared when the camera session is explicitly disconnected or reset, or when the app process ends.
  • Temporary transfers: the app removes temporary save files when the operation finishes, fails, or is cancelled, and share files when the share sheet is dismissed. If the app is unexpectedly terminated, leftover temporary files may remain until the operating system clears them or you delete the app.
  • Saved and shared copies: remain in Apple Photos or your chosen destination until you delete them there. Removing a camera or deleting Alpha Lume does not delete those copies or the files on your camera.

Deleting the app removes its local app data. Copies in device backups are managed through your Apple backup settings. There is no Alpha Lume account or developer-hosted photo library to delete.

Diagnostics and support

The app writes technical connection and transfer diagnostics to Apple’s on-device logging system, such as request timing and error information. It does not include a third-party crash-reporting or analytics service. Apple may process or share system diagnostics according to your device’s analytics settings and its privacy policy.

If you email support, we receive your email address, your message, and any attachments you choose to send. We use these only to respond to you and troubleshoot your request. Our email provider processes this correspondence to deliver and store email. We keep it only as long as needed to resolve your request, unless a legal obligation requires longer retention. Please avoid sending Wi-Fi passwords or private photos.

To request access, correction, or deletion of support correspondence, email [email protected]. We cannot access or delete the photos and camera details stored on your device.

Children’s privacy

Alpha Lume is a general-purpose camera utility and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has sent us personal information through support, contact us so we can remove it.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy when the app or its privacy practices change. The latest version will be available on this page with an updated date. Material changes will also be communicated in the app or its release information as appropriate.
